The Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) Peel is one of the most popular and reliable chemical peels to treat skin imperfections. Dr. Klausner believes that the 25% concentration, which is considered a medium peel, will give the best results and produce a deeper penetration. When used in a controlled fashion, TCA 25% peels produce improvement in collagen and elastin in the skin and reduction of fine lines, acne scars, and hyper-pigmentation.
Since TCA 25% is a medium peel it can cause the skin to appear to have a severe sunburn for about one week. It is extremely necessary for a person having a medium peel to protect the treated skin from the sun and you may also be asked to follow the procedure with an antibacterial ointment for about one week. Dr. Klausner will discuss which sun protection will be most appropriate as well as make suggestions on beneficial skincare to use post peel.
As with any skin treatment, choosing a skilled, knowledgeable physician is pertinent. Dr. Klausner can give you the confidence of her educated experience. She will make sure you are well informed and cared for.
As with all of the treatments offered, Dr. Klausner will discuss in detail in her Manhattan office your desires, questions and concerns and, once a thorough examination has been completed, she will give you expert advice about your treatment.
Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and is a natural constituent of sugar cane. Dr. Klausner uses this product to produce light chemical peels for the treatment of fine wrinkles, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne. Glycolic Acid peels work by loosening up the horny layer and exfoliating the superficial top layer. This peel also stimulates collagen growth due to its excellent capability to penetrate skin.
Dr. Klausner chooses concentrations of 20% to 70% after fully examining the patients skin and history. In addition to concentration, pH also plays a large part in determining the potency of glycolic acid in solution. Dr. Klausner uses physician-strength peels with a pH as low as 0.6. In the days following a Glycolic Acid, you will see improvement in your skin’s appearance and texture. Used in a series, you will see a reduction in wrinkles and fine lines, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and other skin conditions, including actinic keratosis, hyperkeratosis, and seborrheic keratosis. Once applied, glycolic acid reacts with the upper layer of the epidermis, weakening the binding properties of the lipids that hold the dead skin cells together. This allows the stratum corneum to be exfoliated, exposing live skin cells.
Dr. Klausner believes the Jessner’s Peel is a superior treatment designed to remove superficial layers of skin. It is one of the most effective light cosmetic chemical peels available. The Jessner’s Peel consists of mild peeling agents such as, salicylic acid (a beta hydroxy acid), lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) and resorcinol.
The Jessner’s Peel can reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and environmental damage caused by the sun and pollutants. Because the Jessner’s Peel is mild, it is an excellent choice for all skin types. It smoothes and rejuvenates skin, producing beautiful results in the treatment of mild to severe acne by decreasing oil production and opening clogged sebaceous follicles. It also contributes to the healing process of acne.
